How would you describe your ideal next role?
My ideal role would be remote or hybrid, where I am an individual contributor who is part of architectural/design decisions. I'd like to find a mix between my known, core stack and some technologies/languages I'm less familiar with, so that I can provide value quickly, but expand my expertise and breadth.
How would you describe your professional background?
My first programming class was in Java, as an engineering general, before I knew what I wanted to do. Then, for a while, it seemed like I'd be an embedded engineer, since my major had much more low-level and microcontroller-focused programming. My first two jobs were listed as Java-first, but ended up being Angular- and Kotlin-heavy instead. My latest position did still include Java, as well as Angular and PostgreSQL, and gave me several years of experience in a distributed microservices ecosystem with Spring Boot. I guess you could say I'm always open to adapting to new surroundings, because in the end, programming is fun.
How would you describe your ideal next employer?
As I mentioned in my ideal next role, I'd love to work at a place which needs something I'm already good at, but also things I'm not, to give me real incentive to grow and learn new things. Company size doesn't matter as much, as long as there is a culture where you're not trapped in departmental silos; if cross-team and interdepartmental collaboration aren't required, hopefully they're at least encouraged. I'd love if this company wasn't afraid to innovate and take risks. My ideal next company would care about sustainability.
