How would you describe your ideal next role?
My ideal role would be leading a large engineering unit focused on scaled Cloud Infrastructure. That could be in a platform, DevOps, or architectural capacity. I work best when I can lead a small group of skilled and compassionate engineers eager to achieve more.
How would you describe your professional background?
Monotony is a struggle for me, so I've leaned heavily into answer "what if I didn't have to do this again?" This has lead me on a career for more than a decade of reducing toil and cognitive load for my fellow engineers. From help desk, to systems administration, web development to cloud engineering, and now leading platform teams; I've always tried to reduce the total number of steps a person needs to touch on their way to production. I lead with empathy, especially when managing a change to user workflows. We've known that "chuck it over the wall" doesn't work for software, yet we see it too often when chaning internal tools or processes.
How would you describe your ideal next employer?
I work best in companies with high trust and autonomy, and a self-service mindset. I approach my work through a product lens, and will align best with companies who do the same. I love to share ideas and collaborate with other engineers excited about the work, so a culture where this is prioritized and supported would be very attractive to me.
