How would you describe your ideal next role?
A lead engineer or engineering manager role where I own critical systems end to end and work directly with the people making business decisions. I've coded since middle school and ran a company as CEO for 15 years, so I'm most useful where technical and business calls overlap. I want to lead a team, set technical direction, and still stay close enough to the code to unblock hard problems.
How would you describe your professional background?
I started my career at Sun Microsystems, earned a CS degree from the University of Iowa, and then built my own company from nothing to $1.8M a year. I wrote and ran the software behind it myself, including a ticketing and operations platform that handled events of up to 16,000 attendees. I spent years building Rails monoliths and now work mostly in Rust, and I co-maintain the Geokit gems. Running the business taught me budgeting, contracts, hiring, and managing people, which is the experience I want to bring into an engineering leadership role.
How would you describe your ideal next employer?
An established company with real budgets and real technical problems, in the Twin Cities or remote. I want a culture that values results over process, pays well for people who deliver, and gives engineering leaders real ownership. Industry is open; I'm most interested in places where software directly drives revenue.

I have not yet invented time travel, but I do like to invent stuff. Rewrite it in Rust. My Jarvis is named Claude.
